Meet Our Staff

Ray Méndez, MD

Ray Mendez, MD, MA is a family physician from Chicago dedicated to serving the global Latinx community. Dr. Mendez is the founding physician of MiMedico, a primary care clinic located in Chicago's predominantly Mexican neighborhood of Pilsen. Dr. Mendez also works at the Emergency Department Extension at Ingalls Memorial Hospital and spends time as an clinical educator in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine as well as Rush Medical College. Dr. Mendez is honored to serve on the Executive Board of Directors at the Health & Medicine Policy Research Group, an organization that conducts research, educates, and collaborates with stakeholders to advocate for equitable health policies that impact health systems. Dr. Mendez takes annual trips to work in Nicaragua with aspirations of creating a sustainable, community-run primary care clinic in the country.

Monica Shelton, Revenue Cycle Manager

Monica brings over 23 years of experience as a medical biller and a lifelong passion for helping others. Born and raised in Chicago’s Latino community, she understands firsthand the challenges many patients face when navigating healthcare and insurance, especially when language is a barrier. Mimedico is the first clinic where Monica has been able to work directly with patients, helping them understand their insurance coverage and answering their questions with compassion and patience. She takes pride in supporting the Latino community and ensuring every patient feels informed, comfortable, and cared for.

Marisol Méndez, RN & Clinical Director

Marisol Rodriguez is a Registered Nurse that began her journey at MiMedico as a volunteer, developing and implementing group nutrition classes for childhood obesity and COVID-19. Marisol is now MiMedico’s full time Registered Nurse - collaborating in clinical support, chronic disease and preventative care management, quality improvement assessment, medical record analysis and group visit program consultation. She graduated from Chamberlain University in 2018 with a Bachelor’s degree in Science of Nursing. Marisol is dedicated to serving the local and global Latinx community; she has worked as a Registered Nurse in the past for Oak Street Health in Little Village, Saint Anthony Hospital’s Postpartum unit and volunteered in Nicaragua to deliver health education to extremely low income communities and triage acute illnesses. Marisol is an active member of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses and has served as a member of its community engagement committee for the Illinois chapter. She is an active member of the Society of Latinx Nurses. Marisol aspires to continue to promote health equity to the Latinx community.

Susie Corona, Medical assistant

Susie is a medical assistant at MiMedico, ​​a primary care clinic located in Chicago's predominantly Mexican neighborhood of Pilsen. Susie completed the medical assistant course and graduated Everest College in 2013 and has been in family medicine ever since. While at MiMedico, Susie works with one-on-one patients, provides blood draws, and gives injections to all ages.

Elisaved Guzmán, Receptionist & Community Care Coordinator

Elisaved works as a receptionist and community care coordinator at MiMedico, ​​a primary care clinic located in Chicago's predominantly Mexican neighborhood of Pilsen. Ely started as a patient in MiMedico when it was formerly known as Pilsen Pediatrics. While at MiMedico, Ely works on helping patients get appointments for their specialist outside of MiMedico.

Danni Roa, Assistant Practice Manager & Lead Medical Assistant

With roots from Jalisco, Mexico, Danni’s trajectory in healthcare is a testament to her dedication—ascending from a clinic volunteer to receptionist, and now serving as Lead Medical Assistant, Assistant Practice Manager, and VFC/CHIP Coordinator. Beyond her administrative and clinical leadership, Danni serves as our Art Therapy Director. Looking ahead, she is dedicated to becoming a Family Physician, with a mission to serve as a vital advocate for low-income, minority, and Spanish-speaking communities. She is committed to ensuring that every patient, regardless of background, receives the high-quality, linguistically accessible care they deserve.
